The Parent Partner is responsible for providing direct support services to the families and caregivers of the children in the FSP program. Assists the family in learning communication skills, educates the family about child service agencies, and serves as a support to the caregiver as part of the FSP program. Assists the Therapist and Case Manager with family and community engagement, advising on parent and family concerns within the treatment plan. Also, Parent Partner will complete Outcome Measure Application (OMA) with caregiver. Assists the Program Manager in developing and ongoing support of the advisory board for FSP services.
Job Responsibilities:
- Under supervision of the Therapist and Program Manager, assists caregiver in the engagement process of FSP, conducting meetings and providing feedback between families and the Therapist.
- Complete all documentation requirements per DMH guidelines and CB policies with all progress notes completed within 24 hours.
- Develops peer support and encouragement with families to participate in the FSP process.
- Assists the Therapist in developing the comprehensive, written treatment plan and a Crisis Response Plan identifying and linking the client and family's needs and strengths with the goals negotiated with the client and family.
- Assesses the family's readiness for plan implementation, and coordinates their participation with the Therapist.
- Under collaboration of the Therapist, intervenes by telephone or in person with the caregiver in an emergency crisis to provide support and assistance in problem resolution.
- Develops parent advocating training programs and conducts sessions to improve communication and the knowledge base of families with the treatment system
- Provides interventions for the client and family to improve client's behavioral outcomes as indicated on the treatment plan, and makes recommendations on flex fund allocations to the Therapist.
- Monitors the family's ability to follow the Crisis Response Plan and their needs for flex funds, reporting these to the therapist.
- Participates in the Child and Family Team meetings and activities.
- Interacts with clients and staff as needed in the coordination of services
- Complete Outcome Measure Application (OMA) baseline with caregiver and stay on schedule for completing 3 month OMA.
- As a mandated reporter, must follow child abuse reporting guidelines and report all suspicions of child abuse and/or neglect.
- Must be able to work a flexible and varied schedule.
General
- Maintains 25% billable service delivery (10/wk)
- Monitors and ensures service utilization is commiserate with the level of client need and medical necessity.
- Ensure timely client access to services such that clients are identified, assigned, evaluated and treated within agency timeframe
- Other duties as assigned
- As a mandated reporter, must follow child abuse reporting guidelines and report all suspicions of child abuse and/or neglect.
Job Qualifications:
Experience
- Biological or adoptive parent of a child with special needs
- Past experience and/or involvement with either the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health, Child and Family Services, or Probation.
- Parent Partners must not have an open probation case for at least one year (1).
- Education, Professional Training, Technical Training or Certification
- High school diploma or GED
- Valid California driver's license.
Knowledge/Skills
- Bilingual Spanish language speaking, reading, writing required.
- Maintains confidentiality in matters of agency operations, personnel, and clients
- Maintains positive communication with all agency staff, clients and visitors
- Exercises good judgement in performance of duties and responsibilities
- Supports existing agency policies, principles and mission.
- Ability to interact and communicate both verbally and in writing with seriously emotionally disturbed children, other staff, physicians and the public.
- Demonstrated understanding of psychiatric illness and its treatment.
- Demonstrated understanding and knowledge of community services and county agencies.
