The Best Start - Region 5 is a place-based initiative that seeks to initiative that seeks to transform an entire network by uniting the residents, public and private organizations to change how both residents and organizations think and act with the ultimate goal of improving outcomes for an entire community of vulnerable, low-income children in Los Angeles. The Best Start team, including the partnership lead, work with the network leadership to set and implement the key priorities and strategies that promote the mission of the initiative.
Approach to the work
- Provide a learning system that helps partners align their activities support collective actions;
- Support a holistic approach to care characterized by empathy
- Focus on a linkage system to effectively connect families with appropriate supports;
- Promote EDI practice change concepts that attend to the human aspects of change including helping organizational partners cope with new demands as they incorporate change and support residents' positive actions
- Facilitate monthly and population level measurements that provide actionable data to inform partners' efforts and galvanize residents to make changes.
Position Description
Under the supervision of the City/Community Place-Based Strategies Manager, the AV Community Program Specialist will be a direct link to the community. As a community liaison, the Specialist will promote manage logistics for Best Start meetings and events. Will be responsible for maintaining the attendance and membership data entry for the Best Start database.
Job Responsibilities:
- This position provides coordination and administrative support for various project related activities for Best Start and All For Kids.
- Position will work closely with the Network Liaison/Policy Analyst to support local partners and community organizations.
- Position will lead the coordination of community engagement and involvement.
- Position will support all community learning activities within AV communities.
- Represent All For Kids and Best Start in the Antelope Valley
- Support the implementation of program activities and participate in appropriate meetings and trainings.
- Coordinate and participate in the evaluation and data process for the partnership
- Troubleshoot problems and respond appropriately
- Support the development of Best Start AV partnership.
- Recruit potential new members and organizations to the Best Start partnership
- Coordinate logistics for meetings, conferences, and trainings, as required
- Creates and organizes meeting records and documents using tools like JotForm and Google Docs to ensure accurate and accessible files
- Sends out and tracks various letters, records and documents.
- Manages and updates calendars for the internal team and partnership events, including Best Start and Antelope Valley activities
- Inventories, orders and/or purchases needed office supplies and equipment with necessary approval.
- Review and submit financial documents to supervisor for approval
- Work closely with local partners on needs of the Best Start partnership
- Coordinates the development of marketing materials, forms, and documents to support project goals and communication needs.
- Other duties as required to maintain the partnership
- Ability to work a flexible schedule which will include weekends and/or evenings.
- Maintains confidentiality in matters of agency operations, personnel, and clients.
- Maintains positive communications with all agency staff, clients and visitors.
- Exercises good judgment in performance of duties and responsibilities
- Supports existing agency policies, principles and mission.
Learning System
- Promote shared learning and collaboration amongst the team to foster a collective responsibility towards achieving Best Start- community change agenda goals.
- Work directly with the Data Management Specialist and other Best Start team members to develop a framework and project plan for shared data and evaluation.
- Disseminate data and other information to Best Start staff, collaborating agencies, community- based organizations, schools, parent groups, and other stakeholders as it relates to the community change agenda of Best Start Translate materials in Spanish/English as needed.
- Follow an inclusive, equitable, and diverse approach to the Best Start Work.
Team Support
- Assist in the execution of the communications strategy that incorporates the sharing of network actions and utilizes a range of social media platforms to further the change agenda
- Manages invoicing and payment for external vendors
- Manages supply inventory and purchasing

Job Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree preferred or 3 years of equivalent experience in a related field
- 3-5 years administrative experience with increasing responsibilities
- Minimum 3 years working directly with community members
- Background relevant to the field of child abuse prevention, such as work in any capacity with CAPCs, FRCs, First 5, etc.
- Superior computer skills including typing, email, Microsoft office programs and data entry ability as determined by specific job requirements
- Familiarity navigating social media sites
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment
- Excellent time management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects
- Minimum 2 years' experience with meeting, conference, and training logistics
- Bilingual English/Spanish a plus, but not required
- Requires proof of valid CA driver's license, insurance, criminal clearance, and driving record acceptable to All For Kids' insurance provider
