Your Role: Family Support Counselor
Location: Santa Ana
Pay: $27/Hourly

Your Toolkit Should Include:

• Bachelor's Degree in Human Services/Behavioral Sciences from an accredited University or equivalent on-the-job experience
• Two or more years of experience working with children and families and/or parenting; community outreach with low-income, moderate- to high-risk families
• Knowledge of child development and community resources desirable
• Ability to use diagnostic skills to make assessments
• Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment
• Bilingual English/Spanish may be required
• Good organizational, follow-through, and verbal/written communication skills

Your Superpowers Include:

• Implementing a community-based prevention effort for families
• Providing in-home and virtual visits using Parents as Teachers curriculum
• Providing group parent education classes and conducting Group Connection parenting classes
• Providing case management and assistance to families in linking with community resources
• Providing PAT curriculum, assessments, and screenings to assigned families
• Teaching and modeling parenting skills
• Providing participant support and education
• Developing "parent leaders" for Group Connection classes
• Setting SMART Goals and providing resource connections to assigned families
• Assisting families in crisis situations, including immediate needs for shelter, childcare, health care, and other services through appropriate referrals and case management
• Providing basic preventative health care information and assisting families with budgeting, home organization, and other skills necessary for improved safety and management
• Maintaining current knowledge of community resources and assisting families in identifying and reaching appropriate resources
• Advocating for participants as needed with Cal-Works, Medi-Cal, and other systems
• Translating materials for participants and the agency when needed
• Attending community meetings, agency collaboration meetings, and weekly Case Management Meetings as assigned
• Maintaining records, case files, notes, work and activity documentation, statistics, and other required documentation
• Meeting PAT and ongoing comprehensive case management requirements
• Maintaining effective working relationships with individuals and agencies impacting the program
• Assisting the Program Supervisor with developing and implementing community outreach programs
• Maintaining confidentiality and positive communication with agency staff, participants, and volunteers
• Exercising good judgment and supporting existing agency policies, principles, and mission
