The position of Behavioral Health Training Coordinator will pay $75,000/annually.
Additionally, the lifespan compensation range of this position is: $75,000/annually - $80,000/annually.

With limited supervision, the Training Coordinator is responsible for coordination of clinical training events as well as orienting all new clinical hires to the mental health program. The Training Coordinator develops or updates, as needed, a training curriculum consistent with LA County Department of Mental Health regulations to assist new staff in understanding their job duties-including but not limited to documentation and billing expectations, clinical practice standards, and use of the agency's Electronic Health Record System. The focus of this position is to provide clear and comprehensive standards of practice to staff upon hire, and to reinforce those standards through ongoing trainings and written guidelines. Maintains a data base of all staff trainings and oversees tracking of clinical training to meet professional, contractual, and regulatory standards. This role will serve as the point-person for verification of EBP trainings and secures supporting documentation of completed trainings to submit to DMH for training reimbursement purposes. Inputs EBP training data into the NAPPA system as required and serves as the contact for DMH. The Training Coordinator works closely with key staff and resources to conduct research, create policies and procedures, and develop trainings to promote clinical best practices-including but not limited to the areas of Cal-AIM, telehealth, family therapy, trauma-informed care, risk management, safety planning, and care coordination. Engages in a high level of collaboration with staff-both within the QI Department and across the entire mental health program.
Job Responsibilities:
Departmental Responsibilities
- Provides new hire orientations as an essential part of the onboarding processes and ensures training is effectively produced, assessed, and reinforced.
- Facilitates coordination of credentialing and registration process for onboarding of new staff as rendering providers.
- Reviews a sample of documentation for all new employees within 3 months of hire to ensure Medi-Cal and quality of care standards are being met.
- Provides ongoing trainings, as needed, for all mental health staff regarding quality and compliance standards.
- Provides training to new hires on the definition and value of EBPs and introduces new hires to each of the EBPs provided across the mental health program.
- Maintains a database of all staff trainings and generates reports as needed. Oversees tracking of clinical training to meet professional, contractual, and regulatory standards.
- Serves as the point-person for verification of EBP trainings and secures supporting documentation of completed trainings to submit to DMH on a timely basis for training reimbursement purposes. Inputs EBP training data into the NAPPA system as required and serves as the contact for DMH.
- Provides periodic reports of staff compliance with EBP training protocols and communicates findings to supervisors to ensure compliance.
- Works closely with Quality Care Supervisor in learning about new regulations and changes in policies at the Federal, State, and County levels and will co-lead implementation efforts to sustain compliance.
- Develops, and updates as needed, written guidelines (including Quality Improvement Bulletins) around clinical service delivery and documentation.
- Works closely with the Quality Care Supervisor to co-lead in researching Cal-AIM initiative for the agency, creating training materials to support staff towards meeting Cal-AIM requirements.
- Works collaboratively as a member of the Quality Improvement Department to ensure full compliance with Medi-Cal documentation, claiming, and service delivery requirements and clinical best practices.
- As per the QA Department Auditing Plan, participates in chart reviews to identify trends and training needs, including areas of needed enhancement of training materials.
- Develops, in conjunction with Supervisors, specialized trainings for staff with documentation challenges.
- Provides specialized trainings and written guidelines for MAT, TBS, Day Treatment, and WRAP, and other programs as requested.
- Continually evaluate effectiveness of training efforts via staff surveys and case record reviews and present findings in QIC and Supervisor meetings.
- Maintains, and update as needed, a Quality Assurance Manual to assist staff with their day-to-day job responsibilities.
- Participates in Clinical Case Reviews to address issues of potential concern, such as quality and/or level of care, EBP model fidelity, cost of services issues, etc.
- Assists with development of policies and procedures to ensure quality provision of mental health services across multiple funding sources and a range of programs.
- Other duties as assigned.
Organizational Responsibilities
- Ensures that Diversity, Inclusion & Equity (DEI) and Trauma Informed Resilience Oriented Community (TIROC) practices are infused throughout the programing.
- Assists with review of department policies, procedures, manuals, job descriptions, etc., at least annually, and participate in making recommended changes and ensure that program is always compliant with Council of Accreditation (COA) standards.
- Represent the organization as ambassadors and experts in the field with external stakeholders, partnering agencies, and governmental entities.
- Develop a culture within the program of learning and embed the Continuous Quality Improvement within all areas of the work.
Job Qualifications:
Experience
- Minimum of 5 years of experience working within a Mental Health setting, preferably with a focus on youth and families.
- Demonstrated expertise with service standards set forth by the State of California regarding Medi-Cal/Short Doyle/EPSDT.
- Strong knowledge of Quality Improvement activities, documentation standards, and regulatory requirements related to DMH services.
- Ability to develop policies and procedures on complex issues-including research and incorporation of best practice standards and regulatory mandates
- Demonstrated strong communication and interpersonal skills required.
- Training skills, including curriculum development and presentation experience
- Ability to function as a member of an inter-disciplinary team.
Education, Professional Training, Technical Training or Certification
- Master's degree in Social Work, or Marriage & Family Therapy, or doctorate in psychology required.
- Licensed as an MFT, LCSW or Psychologist in active status with state of California Board of Behavioral Sciences required.
Knowledge/Skills
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from clients, clinical staff, other employees, and county representatives
- Knowledgeable about DMH and BBS standards and regulations with ability to read, analyze and interpret manuals, bulletins, and policies issued by these and other relevant entities.
- Ability to be flexible, independent, manage crises, and possess strong leadership skills
- Maintain confidentiality of all pertinent to client care information to assure clients' rights are protected.
- Maintains positive communication with all agency staff, clients, and visitors
- Exercises good judgment in performance of duties and responsibilities
- Supports existing agency policies, principles, and mission
- Knowledge of medical necessity standards under Medicaid funding
- Knowledge of clinical best practices in serving youth and families, with a focus on trauma-informed care
- Strong organizational skills and high attention to detail
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Must have strong computer skills including knowledge and experience with Microsoft office, Word, and Excel.
- Ability to take complicated information and organize it into clear reports.
